"Cat" 1926 Kasama Nichido Museum of Art
Born in Ginza district, Tokyo, Ryusei KISHIDA grew up in a family that runs Rakuzen-do, which sells the eye drops "Seikisui". He studied plein-air style in the Hakuba-kai art institute, under Seiki KURODA, and was influenced by various painters, Renoir, Van Gogh, Cezanne and Durer. Afterwards, he turned his attention to eastern art like Chinese paintings of the Song and Yuan dynasties and Nanga and developed his own painting style. The range of his works is wide such as watercolors, prints, Japanese paintings, and illustrations, in particular self-portraits and series of paintings of his beloved daughter Reiko become his representative works that attract viewer's attention. This exhibition showcases the paintings by Ryusei from the museum's collection and traces his early to late artistic career. We hope the visitors appreciate Ryusei's various paintings and explore his career.
