Where the Heart Lies -Faith, Home, Music

January 2 [Mon]-February 26[Sun]. 2023

Hiroshi OKUTANI "Asura" 1998 Kasama Nichido Museum of Art

There is always something we as people cherish in our hearts that gives us "comfort" and "strength", such as sceneries of our hometowns, nature, faith, and music. That something may be different from one person to another but we do all treasure it in our hearts and minds. This exhibition features a selection of works from the museum's collection including icon paintings by Kasama-born artist Rin YAMASHITA and 32 original, biblical illustrations, with sketches, by artist Ryohei KOISO, a Christian himself. In addition, the exhibition showcases works depicting places of worship - shrines, temples, and churches - as well as representations of traditional, Japanese landscapes such as mountains, nature, and old houses with thatched roofs. Among the selected works, there are also pieces that are related to musicians, photographs of Kyu SAKAMOTO, a singer associated with Kasama, and paintings by Tsuyoshi NAGABUCHI, as, since ancient times, music too has always provided comfort to people's soul and spirit. Regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or religion, in the end there is no difference in the way we live our spirituality and cherish memories of our hometown, roots and of what we deem dear. This exhibition wishes to invite visitors to find comfort through these artworks especially during the difficult times we are living in.
