5F奥谷記念室 / 5th floor, Hiroshi Okutani Homage Hall

奥谷 博（おくたにひろし）昭和9年（1934年）

1934年、高知県宿毛市に生まれる。1963年、東京芸術大学美術学部専攻科（油画）修了、大橋賞を受賞。1965年、独立美術協会第33回展出品、独立賞・須田賞を受賞。1966年、第1回昭和会展出品、昭和会賞受賞。独立美術協会会員推挙。1967年、第1回文部省芸術家在外研修員（現・文化庁新進芸術家海外研修員）として渡欧（〜'68年）。1971年、渡仏（〜'73年）。1983年、第33回芸術選奨文部大臣賞、1984年、第3回宮本三郎記念賞を受賞。1995年、第18回安田火災東郷青児美術館大賞を受賞。1996年、第52回日本藝術院賞受賞、日本藝術院会員となる。2007年、世界遺産条約採択35周年記念奥谷博展－訪ねた世界遺産－（パリ、ユネスコ本部ミロホール）を開催、同年、平成19年度文化功労者に顕彰される。2017年、平成29年度文化勲章を受章する。

3F 金山平三・佐竹 徳 記念室 / 3rd floor, Heizo Kanayama and Toku Satake Memorial Room

金子コレクションと佐竹コレクション / The Kaneko Collection and the Satake Collection

当館が所蔵する金山作品の多くは、画家を敬愛して作品を収集した山形県大石田の旧家出身の金子阿岐夫氏より託された作品（金子コレクション）。また佐竹作品のほとんどが、画家の長女、佐竹美智子氏より寄贈された作品（佐竹コレクション）です。さまざまな美術思潮に惑わされることなく真摯に制作を続けた両画家の作品は、その画業の顕彰を願う二人の思いを受け、愛好家を増やしています。

Numerous works by Kanayama in our museum's collection were collected by Kaneko Akio, a descendant of an old family from Oishida, Yamagata Prefecture, who admired Kanayama (Kaneko Collection). Furthermore, the majority of the Satake works were donated by Michiko Satake, the artist's daughter (the Satake Collection). Kanayama and Satake continued to create without being swayed by various art trends, and their works are attracting an ever-increasing number of enthusiasts, thanks to the donors' desire to honor their achievements.

金山平三（Heizo kanayama）明治16年（1883）-昭和39年（1964）

神戸に生まれ、東京で没。明治42年東京美術学校西洋画科本科を主席で卒業。明治45年から大正4年、ヨーロッパに留学し多くを吸収する。5年文展初入選・特選、6年特選。以後文展、帝展に出品。昭和10年松田改組による美術界の混乱を機に中央画壇から離れる。昭和19年、帝室技芸員。昭和22年より山形県大石田に制作の拠点を移す。昭和32年、長い沈黙を破り大回顧展を開催し翌年、日本芸術院会員となる。優れた色彩表現と安定した画面構成によって独自の画境に到達、また画材を厳選するなど、生涯を通じて油彩画のマティエールを探求した。とりわけ雪景の評価は高く「雪の金山」と称された。

He was born in Kobe in 1883 and died in Tokyo in 1964. He graduated from the Tokyo Art School in 1909. He studied in Europe from 1912 to 1915, absorbing a great deal from the experience. He left the central art world in 1935 amid turmoil in the art scene. He based his creative activities in Oishida, Yamagata Prefecture, from 1947 and ended his long period of silence by holding a major retrospective exhibition in 1957. The following year, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. He achieved a unique artistic style through his superb use of colour and stable compositional structure. His snow scenes, in particular, are highly regarded.

佐竹 徳（Toku Satake）明治30年（1897）‐平成10年（1998）

大阪市に生まれ、岡山で没。関西美術院、次いで川端画学校に学ぶ。大正10年帝展特選、この年、画集で見たセザンヌの作品に感銘を受ける。昭和4年帝展特選作が宮内省買上となる。翌年より無監査。昭和15年以降、十和田や奥入瀬などを取材。21年日展特選。34年岡山県牛窓町の風景美に惹かれ〈オリーブ園〉を中心に制作、38年から1年の大半を牛窓で過ごす。42年新日展にて内閣総理大臣賞。43年「オリーブと海（牛窓）」で日本芸術院賞受賞。44年から4年にわたり日展理事。平成3年日本芸術院会員。あらゆる命を慈しむ人柄と求道的な制作姿勢により「牛窓の聖者」と呼ばれた。

He was born in Osaka City in 1897 and died in Okayama Prefecture in 1998. He studied at the Kansai School of Fine Arts and the Kawabata Painting Studio. In 1921, he was deeply impressed by Cézanne's work after seeing it in an art book. From 1940 onwards, he frequently sketched outdoors in places such as Towada and Oirase. Attracted by the beauty of the landscape, he spent most of each year in Ushimado, Okayama Prefecture, from 1963 onwards, focusing his work on the theme of 'olive groves'. In 1991, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. His compassionate nature and dedication to his work earned him the nickname 'the Saint of Ushimado'.
