パレット画の収集は、ユトリロが愛用のパレットに絵を描いて画商ペトリデスに贈ったのを知った長谷川仁（日動画廊・日動美術財団創立者）が多年親交を深めた画家たちに願い出て、日動画廊創立40周年の1967年に、170点のパレットを譲り受けたことを契機に開始されました。その後も寄贈が続き、現在では梅原龍三郎や安井曾太郎、片岡球子ら日本の画家たちに加え、ユトリロやピカソ、ダリ、マティスら海外の画家まで約370作家のパレットを収蔵しています。
The Palette Collection began when Jin Hasegawa, upon learning that Utrillo had painted on a palette and gifted it to art dealer Petridis, requested and acquired palettes from 170 painters with whom he had long been acquainted. Today, it encompasses palettes by 370 artists, including Japanese painters such as Ryuzaburo Umehara, Sotaro Yasui and Tamako Kataoka, alongside international artists like Utrillo, Picasso, Dali, and Matisse. It is recognized as a collection without parallel in the world.
