パレットコレクションは、ユトリロが愛用のパレットに絵を描いて画商ペトリデスに贈ったように、当館創設者・長谷川仁が、多年おつきあいがあった170人の画家たちからパレットを譲り受けたことを契機に開始されました。その後も寄贈が続き、現在では、梅原龍三郎や安井曾太郎、片岡球子ら日本の画家たちに加え、ユトリロやピカソ、ダリ、マティスら海外の画家まで約370作家のパレットを収蔵しています。
The Palette Collection began when Jin Hasegawa, upon learning that Utrillo had painted on a palette and gifted it to art dealer Petridis, requested and acquired palettes from 170 painters with whom he had long been acquainted. Today, it encompasses palettes by 370 artists, including Japanese painters such as Ryuzaburo Umehara, Sotaro Yasui and Tamako Kataoka, alongside international artists like Utrillo, Picasso, Dali, and Matisse. It is recognized as a collection without parallel in the world.
