An Anniversary Exhibition of KATAOKA Tsurutaro -faces-: 25 years as an artist and 45 years as an entertainer

October 19 [Sat]-December 15 [Sun] 2019

KATAOKA Tsurutaro in front of his work, koi fuji (Mt. Fuji and carps)  2018

KATAOKA Tsurutaro is sometimes an actor and at other times an entertainer, while he has many faces as a painter, a calligrapher and a yogi (a person who practices yoga). He tells us that having various faces is a natural consequence of kept on doing what he wanted to do from time to time.

In this exhibition, we exhibit more than 100 art works, including his new, unpublished, and important pieces, to express his multiple faces. Mt. Fuji was selected as a main image of the exhibition, as a representative face of Japan, to meet demand during next year's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Tsurutaro visualized the Mt. Fuji in his own sense. The Corridor of Camellias is an original part of this exhibition consists of camellia paintings, which reflect the starting point of Tsurutaro's career as a painter. There is a section you can enjoy his face as an entertainer.
